Università degli Studi di Cassino

The University of Cassino (http://www.unicas.it/) was established in 1979 and currently has 5 faculties and about 12.000 students. The Dipartimento di Automazione, Elettromagnetismo, Ingegneria dell'Informazione e Matematica Industriale DAEIMI (http://www3.dipartimenti.unicas.it/DAEIMI/) was established in 1999 and currently hosts 14 professors, 11 associate professors and 26 research associates active in 9 laboratories; among them, is the Laboratory of Industrial Automation (http://www3.dipartimenti.unicas.it/DAEIMI/Laboratori/LAI/) with a staff of 1 professor, 3 associate professors, 3 research associates, and 1 technician. The Robotics Group at the Laboratorio di Automazione Industriale LAI (1 professor, 2 associate professors and 1 research associate) carries out its research activities in the fields of mobile multi-robot systems, mobile robotics, underwater robotics, inverse kinematics algorithms, redundant manipulators control, identification and control of industrial robots, cooperative manipulators and interaction control. The Robotics Group is a partner of the PRISMA Lab (http://www.prisma.unina.it/) with which it shares a twenty-five-year-long cooperation in robotics research. A description of the robotics section of the LAI can be found at the URL http://webuser.unicas.it/lai/robotica/.

Stefano Chiaverini is a professor of Automatic Control in the faculty of Engineering at the University of Cassino, Italy, where he is head of the Department of Automation, Electromagnetics, Information Engineering, and Industrial Mathematics. Within the ECHORD project, he is the scientific responsible person for UNICAS and Chair of the Executive Committee.

His research interests include manipulator inverse kinematics techniques, redundant manipulator control, cooperative robot systems, force/position control of manipulators, underwater robotic systems, mobile robotic systems and mobile robot teams. He has published more than 170 international journal and conference papers, is co-editor of the book "Complex Robotic Systems" (Springer-Verlag, 1998), and is co-author of the book "Fondamenti di Sistemi Dinamici" (McGraw-Hill, 2003). Prof. Chiaverini has been Project Scientific Coordinator or Scientific Responsible of Research Unit for many national research projects funded by MIUR and ASI. He has served as reviewer for several international journals and for several international conferences; he has also served in the International Program Committees of several conferences in various roles. From January 2000 to February 2004, he was Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Robotics and Automation, from August 2004 to June 2010, he was an Editor of the IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics and sinceMay 2009, he has been  an Editorial Advisory Board member of the Paladyn Journal of Behavioral Robotics. From May 2006 to April 2010, he was an Editor of the Conference Editorial Board of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS-CEB). Prof. Chiaverini is a Fellow of the IEEE.
